I have my blog linking to my page as I don't want to overtly put my own profile on there. Great work btw

Re: How to verify authorship of your blog with Google and benefit from author rank (SEO)

I did this last year (it was a lot more steps then) and I didn't have to touch any php, so that must be a new thing. Remember though, when you switch themes you have to check all the snippets are in the right place, because if you lose one in the move you have to start all over again.

Re: How to verify authorship of your blog with Google and benefit from author rank (SEO)

Can't see article link. A Technorati claim is a one off post that you can delete after. This is rather more widespread. Imagine, if Technorati, Stumbleupon, Facebook, twitter all decided they wanted this kind of author Brigadoon our blogs would collapse under the weight. I think I'll skip for now.

Re: How to verify authorship of your blog with Google and benefit from author rank (SEO)

whoo hoo. I didn't need to edit the php - perhaps because my theme already gets the information from the user data, but I did amend the user data to include a direct link to the about page under the Website field (in Contact info). Now I need to sort it for the business blog, too. And I might just get round to dying my hair and posting a new picture, if my picture's going to start showing up all over the place!

Thanks for this. Useful little tutorial.

Re: How to verify authorship of your blog with Google and benefit from author rank (SEO)

Ah, obviously that didn't work, I'll try again with some *
Posted on *?php the_time('F j, Y'); ?*            by *?php the_author_posts_link() ?*            in *?php the_category(', '); ?*

Re: How to verify authorship of your blog with Google and benefit from author rank (SEO)

I think I might have found the right bit. I was going quite well until I couldn't find the right template to alter which I guess is down to my choice of theme but I managed everything else and after a bit of digging I think I have managed to verify ownership via my email. If you have an email with the domain name of your blog you can add it on the Rich Snippets Testing Tool page and it gets added to your profile and verified by google.

Re: Back to agency life…and over to Lava PR

I wish you success in your new/old way. As far as I can tell, all you're really doing is verifying with Google that your G+ profile and your blog are owned by you - you're not adding any cookies or anything that gives Google additional access to your blog - just similar to the Technorati verification process, really.

Obviously I'm only just implementing it now, so I can't say yet from personal experience that it works to improve how high up an article ranks in search results, but here’s an article on author rank and why it’s important.

Thanks for commenting :)

Re: How to verify authorship of your blog with Google and benefit from author rank (SEO)

I'm not sure I want to give google that kind of involvement in my blog!
